saw this article in the washpost about a new perfume at the museum shop at versaille that could be like the one marie antoinette wore. they have a 8.5 oz bottle available for $10,500 and a much smaller almost 1 oz vial for $450 (a real bargain, ne?)... while i think the entire idea is silly, i think the friends in the quote below are even sillier

She confessed, however, that two of her friends who've bought the smaller phials, copied from the queen's original perfume containers on display in one of her private bathrooms, consider the royal fragrance too valuable to ever unseal or wear.

what else are they going to do with it if they don't use it? and why did they buy it??

i had a strange and rather disturbing dream last night... i dreamt that i was barricaded in a room in a mansion with some strangers and outside the room, the house was filled with zombie?/demon-possessed?/generally-bad people hell bent on killing all of us in the room. suddenly the door is broken down and the bad guys swarm into the room. some of the people have guns and shoot at the bad guys but they overwhelm us and soon we're all sort of running around, trying to get away. i somehow get out of the room but in the hallway, i get grabbed and the bad guy stabs me through the stomach with a long piece of pipe (ouch!!)

assuming that killed me, the guy throws me down on the floor. not wanting to disabuse him of that idea, i play dead. oddly enough, while i'm laying there listening to mayhem happen all around, i don't bleed to death (which i would think one would do with a gaping stomach wound...). after a while, things quiet down but, as i get ready to maybe crawl out of there, i notice that one of the bad guys is near me, on the floor, seriously hurt and getting treated by his girlfriend (i guess they can't be zombies... zombies wouldn't have enough of a brain left to have relationships). instead of staying still longer as logic would dictate, i crawl over and pat the guy on the head (whaaa?)

maybe that warped me out of the house cause i then find myself out on the streets. i stumble about until i get to a rundown apartment building. i enter and wander up the main stair case and end up in a giant loft type place where people are smoking up. i'm still wounded so i'm trying to get someone to help but they're all so high on drugs they don't notice me. feeling a bit exasperated, i go down the stairs again and notice that an apt door is open. i peek in and see one room with 2 bunk beds. sitting on the beds, i see a giant black guy with dreadlocks and dressed in rastafarian colors, a tiny asian girl (who looks like the girl from gilmore girls. ack!), and the michelin man... they notice me and run over to help. the girl tells me she'll get money to get me a doctor and she breaks open her piggy bank and starts counting quarters.... that's when my alarm went off and i woke up O.o... isn't that a really disturbing dream? i bet a psychologist would have a field day with it ^^;

joann is the best! ...and i'm an idiot. last night, i spent 2+ hrs trying to figure out how to get a @*#ing memory card out of the new cell. i tried fingernails, tweezers, googling to see if there was a special trick to it... well, this morning, i went to ask joann (a coworker), who's also an artist, if she knew any special teeny tiny tweezers or pliers that i could use on it. she got curious, took a look at it, and got it out in 2 seconds (maybe less).. it turns out if you push the card in, it pops out. i swear i tried that yesterday and it didn't work but now it works. perfectly!!! argh...

ick.. this afternoon kinda sucked... i found out a coworker/friend is being let go for budget reasons... while i've been told i shouldn't worry (and there are other more tangible reasons why i'm 99.9% positive i'll be ok), one can't help but feel somewhat depressed when it feels like someone new is getting the axe every few weeks! granted, they're all in different departments but still....it's even worse since i really do like this coworker.... meh...

but the one bright spot of the day is that mom got me a new cellphone today as a late christmas gift. it's the new-ish lg chocolate and i love it! mom was actually going to get me something else but, luckily, she called me while she was at the verizon store and i had been eyeing the chocolate for a while (i've always wanted a slider... i don't like the flip phones) so she got it instead ^^ i'm going to have so much fun with customizing everything

anyway, i can't believe it's 2007 already. who would have thought time would pass so quickly? in a few months our 2nd reunions will be coming up! O.o...

hm.. lately i've been spending lots of time with the kitties. after lynx not feeling so hot recently, it looks like he needs the cuddling. he's ok but after the few days of throwing up and the subsequent vet visits, he's been climbing in my lap when i sit and he never did that before.. i think the vet visits really traumatized him ^^;

nyway, other than that, i've been baking a bunch. another couple of loaves of no-knead breads (i loooooove bittman for writing about this in the nyt) and some lavender scones, finally after talking about it for months! yummmmm ^^

this past thursday and friday, i took off just because i had the vacation days left ^^ i went into the city to do some christmas shopping and now i'm broke broke broke ;__; i got my mom a gift certificate to a spa and then picked up some other stuff for people (what i won't say ^^ it's a secret!). then just because i was curious, i went to brooklyn to go to this perfume gallery called 'i hate perfume' run by christopher brosius. i mean, what a name for a perfume gallery, right? ^^ i was also hoping i'd find something i liked too since my skin tends to react to commercial perfumes :P and this guy makes non-alcohol based stuff.

to make a long story short, i went, smelled, and bought... i couldn't resist. he had green tea and black tea as scents! actually, the green tea doesn't smell much like any green tea i've had. too sweet. but the scent is lovely all the same ^_^

tomorrow, i plan to do more baking so i have something to take to the kyudo class on monday ^^ joe froggers and linzer hearts. i hope the joe frogger (molasses cookies) turn out well. i've never made them before...

hm.. busy and tired lately... one would think after having 5 days off for thanksgiving (ok, so i spent 2 solid days cooking but then i spent the remaining 3 days sleeping...), i would be all relaxed and energized :P

i suppose i haven't really been sleeping a whole lot other than those 3 days so maybe that's why but i have some projects i want to get finished before the end of the year ^^

i'm also rather worried. lynx has been throwing up since thanksgiving and i can't figure out what's wrong with him... it was really bad last friday and saturday. he puked all over the place and i mean alllll over the place... i thought it was getting better since he didn't throwing up in the last day or two and was starting to eat again but, this morning, i found that he'd thrown up everything he'd eaten lately up again... ;___; we're going to the vet friday. hopefully it's nothing serious...

lately, i've been trying to be more environmentally friendly. buying more local/organic/sustainable, walking more... the buying local/organic/sustainable is sometimes a little more expensive but i feel the extra money i spend is worth the tiny bit of personal satisfaction i get from helping sustain such environmentally friendlier business practices. granted, in all truthfulness, i have to admit that i'm much too lazy and selfish to change my ways too much ^^;

but for this thanksgiving, i'm buying a turkey from a ny farm. i thought at first that i wouldn't be able to find anything without having to drive upstate to a farm (closes one being 50+miles), which i wasn't going to do for a turkey, but i found that the whole foods near us carries turkey from a farm in plainville (not really a local farm but at least from the same state AND i can just go pick it up at a local store) so i'm happy ^^

anyway, i need to figure out what i'm making for thanksgiving... so far it's just turkey and pumpkin pie. last year, i was all fancy and did a pomagranate gravy.. while i liked it, i didn't like it enough to go throught all that work again. i'll just go with plain gravy and definitely a yam dish and maybe french onion soup?... does french onion go with turkey? i don't want to make butternut squash soup again...

music| j.s. bach - fugue for lute in g minor

i was on a baking roll this weekend. it all started when i found the no-knead bread recipe in the ny times earlier in the week. all week, i couldn't wait to try so come saturday, i mix up my batch and started the 18 hr wait process.

mid-day sunday, when the bread finally came out of the over, i guess i got a bit carried away with that success (sooo exciting!! i made bread and it was good bread too!) so i started making breton biscuits and then it was 'what the heck i have all the ingredients' and so on to chocolate chip cookies ^^;...

to be honest, the bread actually wasn't as fantastic as it could have been. i used 75% whole wheat flour and 25% buckwheat flour and i didn't realize whole wheat flour needs more time than regular flour does to rise so the loaf was rather dense but still tasty. i'll just make sure to give it 24+ hrs to rise next time and the bread will be perfect! ^^

oh yeah, i also finished the cotton sweater i was knitting. i was so domestic this weekend, it's almost sickening... but fun! ^^;

music| gravitation - rage beat

every once in a while, i get this urge to write an ode to chocolate. then i promptly come to my senses, realizing the world really has enough bad poetry to deal with already without my help, and return to my mostly silent (do moans of satisfaction count?) but most sincere appreciation

at this very moment, a tko cookie from bouchon bakery is sitting next to me. it must be the heady smell of dark chocolate, cream, and butter wafting up from the cookie that's inspiring this moment ^^ it's such a seriously addictive cookie. a light mildly sweet cream nestled in between two chocolate butter cookies, bitter and slightly salty... what can i say, i'm in love ^_^

but really, what would life be without chocolate, that wonderful wonderful substance that makes life just a little bit better whatever the circumstances? whether you're sad, happy, lonely, excited, a little bit of chocolate only makes things better (unless you're one of those odd people who don't like chocolate... i have nothing to say to those statistical abnomalities.. ^_~) and there's no real substitute. sure sugar melts in your mouth but it's missing that bite that keeps it from being too sweet along with that rich buttery texture.. hm.. maybe coffee with some sugar and cream could do it but it still wouldn't be quite as good ^^

oh, went to my first kyudo practice yesterday. fun fun! ^^ i can't wait until next week. i kind of wish the practices were longer (it's only 2 hrs long) because with only 6 targets and all the people who show, you don't get to shoot too many times in that two hrs. i wouldn't care if i could practice at home like i want to but equipment is rather expensive and, as i anticipate my bow pull will probably change as i get use to this, it's not worth it yet... but really, how am i suppose to get better at this when practice is so limited? :P

music| dhol foundation - healing with tumeric

been quite the busy bee since i got back from san fran on wed. after spending basically all of wed in transit, i was home thursday and half of friday before i went off to do stuff again ^^

friday night, i went to see alexandre nevsky with ben at avery fisher hall while the ny phil performed the score. to be honest, i wasn't sure about going at first with ben's taste in movies ^^ but the music was by prokofiev so i decided why not and i'm really glad i went. the music was spectacular and the movie was good too ^_^

because i was taking a kyudo course in the morning (at 9am!) in the city, i crashed at fan, eve, and melissa's place tho i wish i had gottem more sleep... they were in the middle of watching 'the squid and the whale' so i ended up staying up later than planned ^^;

i spent most of saturday(from 9am to 5:30pm tho with a lunch break and a tea break in the middle. yay!) doing kyudo. then i met up with fan, eve, and nate to see the new met opera production of madame butterfly ^_^ absolutely fantastic. it was a pity that we could only get standing room seats and that the two people who just happened to be standing in front of me were at least 6ft tall... i spent most of the first act on my tippie-toes... not much fun... thankfully, the usher was really nice and, when two people in the orchestra section left early and gave him their ticket stubs, gave us those ticket stubs so two of us could sit. all i can say is, those were sweet seats ^^ it was too bad fan and i had to trade off with eve and nate after the 1st half of act 2 ^^;... afterwards, the three girls went back to the apartment, opened up a bottle of port and watched the end of 'two weeks notice'... not the best plan (the movie) since that made me end up going to sleep at 2am and i had to wake up at 8am again for more kyudo but it was fun.. ^^

perhaps i should explain what kyudo is. kyudo is japanese zen archery. as the sensei said quite a few times in class, it's an art, not a sport. because of that, and the fact that the process is suppose to be a moving meditation, we spent the first day of class just learning the 7 main steps of kyudo... we didn't get to shoot an arrow at all that first day O.o... but today, we got started on shooting almost as soon as we got in and was able to practice shooting all day. tho my upper arms/shoulders are killing me now, i really enjoyed the course and i think i've found a new hobby (as if i need more! O.o). it's quite cathartic and relaxing. you go through the seven motions, only thinking about each movement of your body, just trying to get them right with no actual thoughts about hitting the target. it's about the process, not the result ^^ um.. perhaps that's enough on that ^_^.. practices are every monday night and i'm really looking forward to going in tomorrow ^^

anyways, i'm off to play with the cats. they've been rather neglected of late ^^;...

saturday was sooo much fun! ^^ lauren and i met up and went apple/pumpkin picking upstate ny. we didn't actually pick apples because, honestly, what would the two of us do with a bushel of apples? but we wandered the orchards and ate a few off the trees and then went to the pumpkin patch and picked some pumpkins to make pie with. yay pie!.. anyway, pumpkin pie is amazingly easy to make. take some pumpkin puree, some sugar, some spices, milk, a pie crust, and an oven and voila, you have a yummy gooey goodness!

we ended up getting way too many pumpkins (4 - not my fault! i thought we'd be ok with 2 small pumpkins but the people at the patch, clearly completely ignorant as to how to make pumpkin pie, kept on telling us we'd need more) so we made 2 pies and 4 little souffle thingies last night but i still had 1 left (1 wasn't ripe yet so i just dumped it in the woods outside for the animals) so i made 2 more and 4 more little souffle thingies today. sooooo tasty ^_^ i'll take one to work tomorrow

um.. let see. today was a good day. not only did i chat with julie, i'm feeling ever so much better. only slightly sniffly ^_^ the only slightest tiniest blight on my day was the personality survey thing today at work. i had aboslutely no problem with the content. it was interesting and possibly helpful for work. my problem was with the presenter. he had this way of ending his sentences with a tonal slide whenever he asked a rhetorical question or emphasize something. as he neared the end of a sentence his voice would start sliding up and go at least an octave and then, at the very last word, his voice would crash down an octave and a half or two... i don't think i would have minded if he only did it a few times in the entire day but he couldn't go on for more than 10 mins without it! ack!! *shudder*... i'm just glad i don't have to hear it anymore

music| every little thing - fragile

made roast duck for dinner today and came to the conclusion that it takes much too much effort to cook with whole duck.

the wole endeavor started off wrong. the thing was only 6 lbs so i figured 24 hrs in the fridge to thaw would be more than enough. maybe all the fat on the thing insulated the inside because when i took it out to cook, it was still mostly frozen solid. so i had to cheat and try to quick thaw it... not too fun

after the duck was roasted, i realized just how much fat is on a duck... even after a half inch of grease coated the bottom of the pan, the duck had enough left on it that we had to cut a bunch all off. ick... to top it off, it didn't taste great. it was good but not enough for all the time/effort put into it. meh. i'll just stick with whole chicken and turkey from now on

anyway, i'm almost finished with the vertigo throw. i'm just slightly worried that i may not have enough to do the last layer of blue and i can't seem to find the same yarn anywhere..

last night, went with fan, nate, one of fan's colleagues and his friend to the met opera performance of la traviata in central park. we picked up some chinese food and had a lovely picnic before hand ^_^ it was fun.. albeit a little damp and cold near the end ^^;... la traviata is sooo good

the only part i didn't like about the entire excursion was our neighbors... the people sitting in front of us kept on taking picture of themselves every 30 mins or so... while i normally wouldn't care, it's rather annoying when you have bright blinding flashes going off right in front of your eyes that often especially when you're trying to enjoy the music :P

i started looking into doing archery recently and found some places near by but looking more into it, regular archery is a little too hunting oriented for my tastes... ^^;... so instead i started looking at asian forms of archery (basically japanese). kyudo is the japanese form of archery and is considered a moving meditation and concentrates on form and the mindset when practicing, which i thought would be cool. i found this place in the city that has weekly practice sessions on mondays and offers classes so i decided to drop by today and it really looks interesting. quite complicated with a lot of motions that just seem unnecessary to my untrained self.. it's definitely been elevated to an art form ^^

the beginner class is in october so i can't start until then.. phooey.. now that thing i'm wondering the most is if it's legal for me to practice in my backyard.... there are no houses behind us (just a buffer forest and a highway beyond that) and the short range form, which is what they do at the practice since it's indoors in a not so very huge room, is done a bow's length away from the target so there's no way one can miss... it'd be perfect if i could.. ^_^

vacation last week was wonderful ^^ dad was here so that was nice and it was even better that we didn't go anywhere. it was one of the most relaxing family vacations i've ever had! mom and dad went golfing every morning while i slept in and then in the afternoon/night we watched lots of movies, including all three extended editions of lotr ^^. sunny and i did go golfing with them last thursday and, while it wasn't a total mess, by the 13th hole i was ready to call it quits. it's only so much fun when one's ball flies a quarter of the distance everyone else's does... altho, i have to say, my short game is pretty good ^^

anyway, it was back to work for me yesterday. last week must have been pretty quiet because there weren't as many emails as i was afriad there might be. what irritates me is that i ended up getting another stupid report to run because the person who use to do them left suddenly (i wanna know what's with all these sudden departures) and i'm the only other person who knows how to run it. bah... anyway, i suppose i should go to sleep...

i had originally planned on having a rather relaxing weekend but my plans went quite awry.. rather than relaxing, i ended up doing a lot of shopping instead... ^^;... this weekend, i tripled the number of handbags (3) in my possesion

saturday, lauren and i headed into the city a little earlier than planned. on our walk from grand central up to this thai restaurant near my office, we came across this charming little handbag store called s.d. kitson. since everyone had been telling me that i should get a new bag (mom because she thinks the bag i got at the renfair is ugly and everyone else because one of the straps broke), i decided to take a look and i'm so glad i did. the place has a stunning selection of handmade leather bags. they were a bit pricy but i just had to get this one! it's it great? it'll be hard to coordinate with anything but who cares ^^ i also picked up this purse because i loved it so much (the colors and the design!)

bag shopping ended up taking more time than we thought so rather than going to a museum like we had planned, we just had a leisurely dinner and wandered for a bit before going to see romeo and juliette. being prokofiev and having a rather dense storyline, it was less dancing and more silent acting but beautiful nonetheless. i think i prefer the ballet to the play ^_^ music always does more for me than words

today, my plan was to sleep in late and not leave the house but mom wanted to go to woodbury commons outlet malls so i figured why not. we ended up staying much longer than i thought and didn't get back home til after 10pm :P... but i did get another handbag (i love the little lemon on it ^^) and a really lovely powder blue fall/winter coat.

nyway, i should really go to sleep. after walking all day yesterday and today, i'm exhausted...

i had a lovely day ^_^

spent the morning outside, replanning the garden because i'm not very happy with about half of what i did :P.... some places that got a lot of sun in the spring, it turns out, doesn't get much in the summer once the trees around the house get some foliage. then there's the matter of the garden still looking sort of bare and half finished because i didn't plant enough plants and half the plants i planted aren't growing the way they should because of a lack of sunlight ;__;

i know i can't move the plants now (not that i'd want to. it's hot out there!) but i can plan and sketch what i want the new layout to be ^^ i just hope it turns out the way it is in my head come next year...

other than that, i updated some of the comment on my cel gallery... a few of the comments written when i was in high school were awfully silly ^^;... i also worked on the vertigo throw some more. it's 34" x 34" now but i want it larger so there's more to be done ^^ it's turning out to look really cool so i think i may have to put a picture up when i'm done ^_^

today was a weird drew barrymore movie day on cable. i ended up watching ever after: a cinderella story and 50 first dates. both were really sweet and fun and i enjoyed watching them immensely but it made me feel wistful for well.. i'm sure you can guess...

but really enough of that... ever after had some things that really bothered me.. like the fact that cinderella is sold. she's not a slave or a serf. and then there's the fact that she's sold to this creepy nobleman who just wants her body but by some hidden goodness doesn't touch her at all and even gives her a knife to defend herself from him until the prince has time to stage and cancel a wedding with the spanish princess before realizing he loves cinderella? *rolls eyes*...

today was my friday off but i went in to the city anyway to hang out with greg since he's only really here until tomorrow night. the plan was to get some wursts for lunch at the german food cart with fan but it wasn't there today ;__; so we just went to a corner deli... after lunch, fan went back to work and greg and i went to tkts to see if there were any shows we wanted to see. sweeny todd would have worked but the tickets were 50+(!) so we decided it wasn't worth it. i was happy anyway cause we decided to see a ballet instead (le corsaire) ^_^ yay!

the story was sillier and more disjointed than the others i've seen but i really enjoyed it anyway ^_^ some amazing male dancing (of course, it didn't hurt that the guy was shirtless! what i would have done for some opera glasses ^_^ hehe) i'm always astounded at some of the moves the dancers can do. next week, it's romeo and juliette with lauren! i'm really excited ^_^

over the weekend, lauren told me citrus fruits causes or exacerbates breakouts... i don't know if i believe her...

anyway, i'm such a layabout ^^;... i slept a lot yesterday and today.. who would have thought a person could sleep so much? i didn't think i was that tired. when not sleeping, i read (as usual ^_^) often, i wouldn't even mean to read a particular book but end up reading it anyway because i'd be looking through the bookshelf, pick up random books to see if i felt like reading at the moment and end up on the floor, just reading the entire thing. i've spent more of my awake time on the floor of the library/computer room than anywhere else.. ^^;

sarturday was lots of fun though. spent the afternoon shopping for clothes but didn't end up getting very much, just a skirt and a few tops. also went to bookoff (a japanese used book/music store, although this one had a lot of english books as well) and stocked up on some music ^_^ then it was to chinatown where we went to the house of vegetables (or maybe it was vegetarians? i don't remember..) because lauren is a vegetarian and had dinner there. surprisingly good ^^

afterwards, we saw swan lake at the met! the seats weren't as good as last time but the ballet was still wonderful ^_^ and the best part is, lauren liked it so we made a date to go see romeo and juliet in two weeks! yay! i just wish people would stop clapping everytime the dancers do something somewhat spectacular. i don't mind it if there's a natural break in the ballet (a built in applause break where the dancers are bowing) but it just seems wrong to clap, no matter how fantastic a particular move was, while other dancers are trying to do their part and cover up the music and break the mood!! i mean, for example, during the last act where odette and siegfried are dancing their heartbreak, it's poignant, sad, and beautiful and then the stupid audience starts clapping, covering the music and definitely destroying whatever atmosphere the ballet is trying to build!! you would never ever do that at a play, a concert, an opera or even a musical. why do people think that it's ok to interrupt what's going on onstage like that?!?!..... am i just being weird in finding it so rude and annoying?

last night, fan, shannon and i went to the hallo berlin beer garden on 44th and 10th as a celebratory last german food get together before she heads to philly since i'm not in the city today to do our weekly german food cart lunch. while it was lovely, carousing is quite an expensive activity!! O.o... i think perhaps the next time i go, i'll skip the beer. beer really is an awful drink... although, it is a beer garden with german food. it would feel so wrong not getting a beer. kinda like going to an asian place and not getting tea!... maybe i'll just stick to the food cart ^^;

tomorrow, i'm going with lauren, a high school friend, to do some clothes shopping in the city to take advantage of the 0% sales tax and the 4th of july sales. we plan on starting in chinatown and then moving up, ending at the lincoln center to see swan lake ^_^ yup, i convinced her to see a ballet... but i have a feeling this will ber her first and last time going to see a ballet unless she really likes it tomorrow. the only reason she's going is because she thought she should at least see swan lake once in her life :P

the nytime has this article on the popularity of lip gloss... i have to say that i can't understand the full appeal that people interviewed in the articale are gushing about... i like lip gloss. it's fun and shiny and sparkly (and we all know what i feel about shiny sparkly things!) but it's just not practical (if such a thing can be said about makeup..). the shine wears off after 20-30 mins so you have to constantly reapply, which is annoying. then there's the ridiculous shine.. do we really have to have blindingly shiny lips? there was this one quote that i thought summed up most of what was ridiculous about lip gloss..

"It needs to be shiny and it needs to taste good," said Ms. Teplitsky, 17, who likes to reapply gloss about every 20 minutes. "But most of all it needs to make my lips look pouty so my boyfriend will look at me."

first off, i think the taste good part is silly. it's lipgloss, not candy but i'll let it go since i can see why it would be nice if it tasted good too. now, on to the next phrase. see what i said about it needing to bre reapplied ever 20-30 mins? that means, on average, a girl has to reapply the stupid stuff abour 25-30 times a day! i bet that comes to about a tube a week. no wonder the cosmetic industry likes it... and now for that last point about her boyfriend... if i were her, i would dump that boyfriend. a boyfriend who won't look at you unless you're looking provocative/enticing probably isn't worth much.. oook, i think i've said enough about that ^^;

just got back from the barge bash ^_^ it's a party thrown by the bookbinder's guild every year and a lot of production/paper people, along with those who can mooch tickets off the two departments, go. it was nice. lots of food and drinks and music. i heard that in the beginning, the party was actually on a barge on the river, hence the name but, alas, i don't know if the group got too big or what but now it's on pier 17 in south street seaport. while i think a party on the river sounds more charming, the place was still very nice. it had a lovely view of the east river and the brooklyn bridge ^^

i had an amaretto sour for the first time since house parties last year. tasty and deceptively non-alcoholie tasting as always ^^ it was so yummy, i just couldn't resist and got another one but couldn't finish it... yup i'm a total lightweight when it comes to alcohol

anyway, shower and then to sleep ^_^

you know, i wasn't planning on keeping the current design for very long because i thought i'd get tired of all the pink but the more i look at it, the more i like it, so perhaps i'll keep it up for a few months ^_^

i bought stuff to make hummus today ^^ mom had ordered sushi already and i'm eating lunch with someone tomorrow so i didn't make any but thursday, it'll be homemade hummus for lunch! ^_^ can you tell i'm somewhat excited?

um.. but i think i'll try to go to sleep early today.. i've been getting 5-6 hrs for the last few days and i keep falling asleep on train.. not a problem in the morning but it's making me almost miss my station on the way back.. ^^;...

music| fushigi yuugi - everlasting story

so we've been having the most horrendous time getting a lawncare group to come. finally we get someone to come today and what do i find when i come home other than they damaged half the plants i planted! half!!! i'm so mad, i could just go after them with my brother's hockey stick... they mangled one of my lavenders, two of my peonies, one of the rose bushes, the rosemary, all the poppies... i think they also hit or somewhat damaged the daylilies... i spent soooo much time on this and now to have these people come and damage it all.. *sniffle*... they're coming back tomorrow and i'm kinda afraid to see what else they'll damage ;___; ... i hope they all get poison ivy!

oh yeah, i didn't end up finishing chrissy's present so i had to go with my backup gift... needless to say, i should have given myself more than a night to make the entire thing. of course, it didn't help that lynx chewed up part of the yarn while i was getting some tea :P

yay. got lots done today ^^ ran a lot of errands in the morning and, in the afternoon, finally finished the garden path i wanted to make (i took pictures cause i was so excited and i'll put them up when i get to updating the photos ^^) and planted some more irises. while i was at the nursery, i also picked up an osmanthus ^_^ i'm really excited about this shrub/tree. there are only about 5 blossoms on the thing and that was enough to make the car smell wonderful during the drive back so i can't wait until the entire tree blooms! anyway, i need to finish making chrissy's graduation present... if i can :P i don't think i left myself enough time but we shall see ^^;...

music| gackt - storm

sooo, i had originally planned on coming out with this design change in early march... you know, for the spring season but erm... i got lazy and distracted by knitting ^^;... also, i seriously miscalculated the width of the text area and it's a bit narrower than i'd like but i think i can live with it... now i just need to get cracking on the photos and other things :P

i just hope no one goes blind from pink overdose ^^;...

on the way home from work, i got distracted by some of the store on 5th ave... it's really all shannon's fault cause if she hadn't initiated our trip during lunch to henri bendel to look at candles, i wouldn't have been tempted on my walk to grand central to check it out again... granted, i had been wanting to buy some of the candles there for quite a few months and welcomed the excuse but that's beside the point ^^;... um... so i picked up two candles. one pomegranate and one osmanthus, whatever that is, but the scents are divine. (oh, osmantus is apparently a tree.. i'll have to try and find one to plant in the yard ^_^)

as i'm writing this, the cats are acting quite wild. they always seem to get antsy when there's a storm out (thunder scares them) and end up fighting a lot... but then after the initial thundering has passed, i'll find them sleeping together on my bed (i've said this before but they're soo cute!)

oh yeah. finished the book today. it was quite excellent and you should definitely read it!

it's late afternoon on a summer friday and i'm quite bored.. can you believe i've only gotten 4(!) emails since lunch? the ususal number is 15-20 in the same span... summer fridays mean, we can choose to work 45 extra minutes everyday during the week and then we get every alternate fridays off. while i don't think it's a very efficient system, i love it ^_^ since work is slower in the summer (oh boy, does it comes back with a vengence in the fall tho..), it also makes sense to have more flexible hours now... so yeah, i'm trying to while away the time by checking on bearded irises. they're quite pretty and i'm thinking of adding a few more to the garden. i have three types but they're all dark dark purple and that can get a bit boring

aha! i just got an email from the big boss down stairs that we can go if work permits so i think i'll head out now ^_^

only got through half the book last night so my plan is to finish it today (after i look over some more stuff from work! meh) it's really good. surprisingly so because i started out not really liking the narrative style but it grew on me and it fits the story or something to that effect. if i finish with enough time left, i might try working on the blanket some more ^^

you know something odd, i have the katamari damacy opening song stuck in my head and i don't know why... i haven't seen heard or even been reminded of it in anyway and yet the song is there...

yay. borrowed the book 'the book thief' until childrens can get me my own copy ^^ it's a young adult book so you would think it wouldn't be as interesting but the first 90 pages or so that i got through on the train were quite good. i'd like to finish it tonight but at 500+ pages, i don't know if i can and still be functional tomorrow. oh wel, we'll see ^^

but first, shower, then look over the stuff i brought home from work :P and, finally, snuggle up in bed with death and a little girl who steals book ^_^

first day in the new cube and all i can say is, it's much too loud... headphones would come in reeeeally handy but it'd be rather inapproriate to wear them there.... one good thing that happened was i got a bookself put in the new space. otherwise, i would have had piles of books all over my worktable top and as much as i love books, that would have bothered me to no end. for some reason, i can deal with paper, and other miscellaneous clutter but not books. unorganized piles of books just make my fingers itch to organize them...

btw, kittens are wonderful ^_^ warm, cuddly and sooooo cute... hehe. raenef just jumped in my lap and wants to cuddle, which is where that divergent line of thought came in ^^

figures. i get home early today because office services is moving us and we can't really do work while they're doing that and it just happens that i spend the entire night trying to fix the internet connection... sigh, and i had so many things i wanted to do tonight... the connection is finally fixed but now it's time to shower and get to sleep so i can get up in time in the morrow. my sleep schedule is still a bit messed up from reunions so i think i should go to sleep a little earlier than normal just to be sure ^^;...

music| psapp - about fun

sigh. reunions is over and it's back to the real world, starting tomorrow.. how sad ;__;... i'm rather dreading the hundreds of emails i'll have in my inbox. while vacations are lovely, the pain of getting back in the swing of things afterwards is no fun..

but this vacation time was sooo worth it *^_^* while inbibing no alcohol (i don't really count the wee nip of stan's brandy or the taste of john's wine during the p-rade as really drinking ^^), i daresay i had just as much fun. it was rather amusing in an irritating way how often our efforts to have fun were thwarted. as if the rain wasn't bad enough, 90% of the time, the band would go on a break just as we got there or would play one or two more songs before going on a break. bah!... i did end up getting a lot of walking done so it wasn't a complete loss ^^;

yesterday, we found a band that we really liked at the 30th but they stopped to eat after four songs.. while i understand they're hungry, couldn't they have eaten earlier? i would think that food and wind/brass instruments don't really go together but what do i know, i'm only a string player

the one thing that hit me again (as it always does at theses events) was that it'd be nice if i knew how to dance... ben and eryck were trying to show me how to dance and i think i was getting it near the end but i still think i have two left feet... perhaps i really will try taking a dance class so that i'll be ready for reunion #2 ^_^

unfortunately, i have no pictures from the event. i didn't want the camera getting wet so i just didn't bother carrying it much... but i'll get some from other people so i won't be pictureless ^_^

one thing that struck me over the weekend was that i'm a ginormous glutton for punishment... i don't know what's wrong with me but hope springs eternal.... meh...

we always knew harvard sucked. the following only confirms it. in the washpost, 'Herman also describes Gottesman's propensity for practical jokes -- and wonders how exactly Gottesman got into Harvard Business School without an undergraduate degree.'..

seriously though, if gottesman had some sort of experience/job that makes him suited for business school, i could understand the decision to accept him but read what his job was.... 'He dog-sits Barney. He carries the hand cleanser. He keeps track of the president's schedule. And he has traveled the world with Bush.'.... yup. he sure is highly qualified.....given the chance, i think most high schoolers could do what he did...

just doing a little news paper browsing while i wait for a program to load and on a nytimes article on the immigration issue i saw the following passage

In border communities like Yuma, Ariz., however, where a local restaurant had to delay its opening repeatedly because it could not find enough employees, the president's call for immediate action on a way to bring more workers into the country legally struck a positive chord.

maybe i'm overlooking something but did it ever occur to the restaurant owners to raise the pay??? unless there's absolutely no one looking for a job in the town, i don't buy the 'we couldn't find someone to work'. it's definitely a 'we didn't want to pay more so we waited until we could get dirt cheap labor'

so many of the political polls are such a stupid waste of time. i was reading the washpost and saw an article about how a 'majority' of americans are ok with the phone database thing. when you actually look at the poll, there's a tiny note that 502 people were polled... how ridiculous is that? you get the opinions of 502 people out of almost 300 million and you say that it reflects the opinion of americans? i don't care if the people asked were chosen at random, we're talking about a sample size that's less than .001% of the whole. granted, depending on how they chose people to poll, i suppose it could be somewhat of a representation but still, i think polls are stupid.

from a washington post article about the gas debate going on in the captial..

The American car manufacturers and other manufacturers are producing cars that Americans want," Boehner said. "These high gas prices will lead consumers to probably better decisions. The market can handle this much better than some kind of government regulation.

are my eyes deceiving me?!? a politician actually gets it! O.o
